Mamma Mia!

Went to my second wine tasting night at Emilio's. This time it was Italian wine with the Italian food. I was in heaven! Great food, great wine and the sommelier was actually from Italy. He was pretty hot. I could listen to that man read the phone book as long as I could stare at him while he did it. ;) But I digress....

First course was the Antipasti:
Clams Oreganate

Clams filled with a stuffing of homemade bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, Italian herbs, bell peppers, and onions and baked golden brown and paired with La Marronaia Vernaccia.  The clams were so good. And the wine was a white wine with yellowish color. It balanced well with the seafood.

Second course was the Insalate:

I did not get a picture of the salad. :( It was fresh mesclun greens with hearts of palm, black olive, tomato, and white onion sprinkled with feta cheese, and served with a homemade Italian Vinaigrette paired Poggio alle Querce Mola Rosé.  As it's hard to pair wine with a salad due to the strong flavors of the dressing, I'd have to say he did well here too. The Rose was a good choice as it didn't have a lot of tartness.

Third course was the Pasta:
Cappellini Con Pomodoro e Basilico
Cappellini pasta tossed with garlic, fresh peeled tomato, basil, and extra virgin olive oil, topped with pecorino cheese and paired with Colli Senesi Chianti.  A pleasant surprise in the Chianti, it didn't take away from the freshness of the tomato and basil but yet didn't disappoint in flavor.

Fourth course was the Entree:
Tonno al Vino Rosso

Pan-Seared Tuna Steak with a fine red wine sauce, topped with a salsa of sautéed garlic, tomatoes, anchovy filets, black olives and capers, served with a creamy risotto and grilled asparagus.
Paired with La Marronaia Quattrorsi Supertuscan.  Another great wine from La Marronaia, the name supertuscan means wines that come from the Tuscany area that are then blended together such as Sangiovese and Merlot. The Sommelier taught us that Quattrororsi means "4 Bears" and is a reference to the winemakers' family name.

Fifth course was the Dolci:

Cheesecake topped with a homemade strawberry brandy glaze.  Paired with Brachetto D’Acqui.  This was my favorite wine, of course I'm partial to the sweet dessert wines. Although this wine was sweet, it wasn't so overly sweet as to take away from the dessert. It was sparkling and complimented the cheesecake very well.

I had an awesome night and enjoyed some awesome food, wine and company. Can't wait to do it again soon!

Do you have some favorite wines?

deal junkie

I LOVE A GOOD DEAL! I literally get excited and start stuttering. If I spot a sale or special, I HAVE to take advantage of it. I get a high from seeing the price go down when I check out. I tell you this to share the deal I found today at Rite Aid.  Was wandering aimlessly through the aisles and ran across some Zone Perfect bars that were on clearance for half price. Originally $1.79 each bar, they were ringing up for .89 cents. BUT the best part?! I know you are on the edge of your seat. ;) Each bar had a peelie coupon for .50 cents off. I purchased 18 bars for $7.02 instead of full retail ($32.22), for a savings of $25.20!! WOOP WOOP!

I'm a coupon shopper, I have a binder and collect as many coupons as I can. I believe in saving as much money as possible. It's not only saving money, it's become a hobby. Something I truly enjoy doing.

What good deals have you found lately?

long time no see....

Life, ain't it crazy how sometimes you can't keep up with it? Sorry I went MIA on ya. Not sure if you've even noticed I was gone. ;) I'm back albeit briefly. Goings on since we last sat down for a cup of tea:

I finally got my hands on a tiller and started the arduous process of turning the soil in my back yard. Apparently you have to either plow it first or be the Hulk to get it right. The tiller has a mind of it's own and likes to carry on like a fool. You have to wrangle it like a 2 year old in the grocery store. Going to get back on the proverbial horse this weekend and hopefully finish it. Also plan to mulch as much as possible. Saw this cute fire pit at the hardware store. Can't wait to be sitting out back listening to the crackle of the fire. :)

Decided to redo some of the tile in my bathroom. Bought the tile and even removed the old ones. That's about where the project has ended. Got too excited (yeah right) about tilling that I figured I'd pick up on the bathroom after I could raise my arms back up.

Found some interesting information regarding my family tree, looks like maybe my last name has been spelled wrong all these years. My best friend calls me a blood hound because I have to get to the bottom of something. I find genealogy fun and interesting. Hopefully I not only find out about my last name but also find some family along the way!

Struggling with my 13 year old daughter. She is a beautiful, funny and smart almost mirror image of me. She has my good habits as well as my bad ones. It's the bad ones that I can't seem to get a grip on. We are taking it one day at a time and I'm going to love her like there's no tomorrow. (Pray for me!)

So what have all of you beauties been up to?

happy valentines day!

I'm linking up with Crystal for our v-day nails. Since I'm not so good with the free hand stuff like she is, I used my stamping kit. China Glaze White on White for the base and a pink striper for the kisses.

Bought myself some awesome things this weekend. I love the TV show Big Bang Theory and of course anything Twilight related.

a few of my favorite things!

And because Crystal knows me so well she bought me a special card for valentine's day. I LOVE YA GIRL!

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

just another manic monday and a link up!

My Monday started out in classic fashion. With a bang and a bruised shin. With my big beautiful boy, Coal wanting breakfast as early as possible, I stumbled out of bed and down the hallway. We have a wooden gate up to keep the dog out of the cat's food bowl, and the cat with his graceful self decided to jump over it. His back legs kicked it back, it hit me in the shin then slammed to the floor. I stood there (awake now!) and said good morning Monday!

And the link up!

I recently got into blogging. My best friend started one and got me into it. Now I look at every opportunity as "Can I blog about this?!". I find it to be fun and I love reading other peoples' blogs.

Tried out my new polishes last night. (see the colors here)  It was kind of late but I wanted to have pretty nails for the link up! :)

weekend replay

Had a busy but good weekend. Learned to never, ever under any circumstances go to Walmart the day before the super bowl. I was in there trying to buy things I actually needed (shame on me!) while everyone and their brother was stocking up on the essentials, from what it looked like, beer and corn dogs. I picked up some yummy stuff to make caprese salad. I get in these moods where I want nothing but Italian food. I roasted some garlic and smeared that on Ciabatta bread while the caprese was marinating.
A little retail therapy is always good. I bought myself a new charm for my bracelet. Especially for Valentine's Day. I'm recently single so that day will be bittersweet. Need to spoil myself accordingly. *wink wink* The charms aren't too pricey, but it's going to be a once in a while thing. The bracelet and several of the charms were a gift from Kay Jewelers.
Devil Heart
Love relaxing, quiet evenings at home with my snuggle buddy. He loves to just get as close as he can and curl up. We spend a lot of time together watching movies and cuddling. I adopted him November of 2010 from the local SPCA. He was only 4 months old and not in good health. He had a rash over most of his little body, it caused him to itch and lose most of his hair in big patches. He was tested/treated for everything from mange to a bacterial infection. Finally when we started noticing that our cat was getting this rash too!, as well as my daughter seemed to have some spots on her!, were we able to determine what it was. Thank goodness, as I was beginning to question my decision of trying to help this poor dog.  It turned out to be ringworm. After some more pills and isolation, I'm happy to say he is 100% better. I'm so glad I stuck it out, he is the most loving and sweet dog. My little Peek A Poo!

Of course I did my nails again Sunday evening. I wanted to do something different but was exhausted so I just painted them quick and added a couple flowers. The picture makes the color look more pink then the polish really is. It's a bit darker, more of a mauve. It's by Sinful Colors. What's your go to shade?

Hope your week is starting out good! Oh yeah and YAY GIANTS! :)

not feeling sorry for myself

Saw this quote on Pinterest: "You can feel sore tomorrow or you can feel sorry tomorrow. You choose."  It is so motivational to me. I repeated it like a mantra several times yesterday as I used the elliptical. At first I'm all gung ho and full of myself. Half way through I'm calling the elliptical evil and convincing myself that it's trying to kill me. By the end, the adrenaline has kicked in and I don't want to get off of the thing. Crazy how that works. I'm sore today BUT I feel great.

I also said that quote to myself last nite. When everyone is asleep and the house is quiet, I scavenge like some sort of animal going into hibernation. A handful of this, a bite of that. I'm not even hungry! Just some need to fill a void that is like a black hole. It cannot be filled with food. Yet, I'm giving it the ol' college try. The quote helped me more then I had imagined. I did eat, but stayed within my calories for the day.

I no longer choose to feel sorry for myself. I want to feel sore because that means I'm living. I'm doing something. I don't want life to pass me by, I want to move with it....

shopping trip and maybe a giveaway!?

I love coupons. I love a bargain. Tonight I went to Kroger in search of a good deal. Here's what I'm thinking, if you can guess the closest to how much I spent I'll send you a Walmart gift card. Leave your guess in the comments, and feel free to ask me questions on the items.  Here's a picture of my trip.
Pretty decent haul!

This isn't my best trip. But I haven't done one since October, that's the last time I had to really go grocery shopping. My stockpile is keeping us fed. I do shop for milk, bread, meat and produce regularly though. Do you use coupons? What's your best deal?

i tend to wine a lot

Well, not really. Maybe a little! :) My best friend Crystal and I went to our first wine tasting on Wednesday night. It was at a local italian place with a food pairing.  The food was phenomenal!! Would definitely go there again. The wine was also from a local vineyard. I had been wanting to try Barren Ridge wine for a while but I'm fearful of buying a whole bottle of something without tasting it. My favorite wines are sweet dessert wines like Moscato. Crystal's favorite was the Red Barren, paired with the salad. The salad was mesclun greens with toasted walnuts, apple and bleu cheese, with a raspberry vinaigrette. My favorite was the Christof, of course! It was a very sweet dessert wine, paired with vanilla gelato and peaches. YUMMY!

I had an awesome night full of great food and lots of laughs. Something I'd definitely do again!

Extend A Mani!

Sometimes I love to paint my nails. Other times I just don't have a moment to sit and give them the attention they deserve. I recently used a product called Nail Fraud. It was late and I didn't want to wait for my polish to dry so I could go to bed. I LOVE these things so much I bought a second set. The design is called Wild Thing2. This is my finished mani!

After a week they held up pretty good. But I'm rough on my hands. I work in IT so my nails get dinged up a lot, especially the tips. So a quick way to make them look nice again and get another week (hopefully) out of my manicure, I added black tips.

Pretty neat right?! How do you make your manis last longer?

Deals & Steals

Wanted to share my latest deal with you! Found this over at Raining Hot Coupons. I was able to get 3 ELF Eyeshadow Palette - 100 Piece sets for $8.46 shipped. The sets are available at Target online ELF Eyeshadow Palette. They are originally $10.00 but are on sale half price. At $5 a piece this is a great deal already but what makes it a steal is applying what I call the three P’s Planning, Patience and Pouncing! I will describe that later on. :)

Here’s what I did:
ELF Eyeshadow Palette $5.00 x 3 = $15.00

Used Promo Code TGTHTT5Z to get 10% off $15.00 - $1.50 = 13.50

Used a Target gift card I received from a deal where I purchased dog food $13.50 - $5.00 = 8.50

I also received free shipping and an additional .68 cents off for using my Target Red Card $8.50 - .68 = $7.82

Plus tax .64 + $7.82 = $8.46 or only $2.82 for each palette shipped!
