Mamma Mia!

Went to my second wine tasting night at Emilio's. This time it was Italian wine with the Italian food. I was in heaven! Great food, great wine and the sommelier was actually from Italy. He was pretty hot. I could listen to that man read the phone book as long as I could stare at him while he did it. ;) But I digress....

First course was the Antipasti:
Clams Oreganate

Clams filled with a stuffing of homemade bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, Italian herbs, bell peppers, and onions and baked golden brown and paired with La Marronaia Vernaccia.  The clams were so good. And the wine was a white wine with yellowish color. It balanced well with the seafood.

Second course was the Insalate:

I did not get a picture of the salad. :( It was fresh mesclun greens with hearts of palm, black olive, tomato, and white onion sprinkled with feta cheese, and served with a homemade Italian Vinaigrette paired Poggio alle Querce Mola Rosé.  As it's hard to pair wine with a salad due to the strong flavors of the dressing, I'd have to say he did well here too. The Rose was a good choice as it didn't have a lot of tartness.

Third course was the Pasta:
Cappellini Con Pomodoro e Basilico
Cappellini pasta tossed with garlic, fresh peeled tomato, basil, and extra virgin olive oil, topped with pecorino cheese and paired with Colli Senesi Chianti.  A pleasant surprise in the Chianti, it didn't take away from the freshness of the tomato and basil but yet didn't disappoint in flavor.

Fourth course was the Entree:
Tonno al Vino Rosso

Pan-Seared Tuna Steak with a fine red wine sauce, topped with a salsa of sautéed garlic, tomatoes, anchovy filets, black olives and capers, served with a creamy risotto and grilled asparagus.
Paired with La Marronaia Quattrorsi Supertuscan.  Another great wine from La Marronaia, the name supertuscan means wines that come from the Tuscany area that are then blended together such as Sangiovese and Merlot. The Sommelier taught us that Quattrororsi means "4 Bears" and is a reference to the winemakers' family name.

Fifth course was the Dolci:

Cheesecake
Cheesecake topped with a homemade strawberry brandy glaze.  Paired with Brachetto D’Acqui.  This was my favorite wine, of course I'm partial to the sweet dessert wines. Although this wine was sweet, it wasn't so overly sweet as to take away from the dessert. It was sparkling and complimented the cheesecake very well.

I had an awesome night and enjoyed some awesome food, wine and company. Can't wait to do it again soon!

Do you have some favorite wines?

deal junkie

I LOVE A GOOD DEAL! I literally get excited and start stuttering. If I spot a sale or special, I HAVE to take advantage of it. I get a high from seeing the price go down when I check out. I tell you this to share the deal I found today at Rite Aid.  Was wandering aimlessly through the aisles and ran across some Zone Perfect bars that were on clearance for half price. Originally $1.79 each bar, they were ringing up for .89 cents. BUT the best part?! I know you are on the edge of your seat. ;) Each bar had a peelie coupon for .50 cents off. I purchased 18 bars for $7.02 instead of full retail ($32.22), for a savings of $25.20!! WOOP WOOP!

I'm a coupon shopper, I have a binder and collect as many coupons as I can. I believe in saving as much money as possible. It's not only saving money, it's become a hobby. Something I truly enjoy doing.

What good deals have you found lately?

long time no see....

Life, ain't it crazy how sometimes you can't keep up with it? Sorry I went MIA on ya. Not sure if you've even noticed I was gone. ;) I'm back albeit briefly. Goings on since we last sat down for a cup of tea:

I finally got my hands on a tiller and started the arduous process of turning the soil in my back yard. Apparently you have to either plow it first or be the Hulk to get it right. The tiller has a mind of it's own and likes to carry on like a fool. You have to wrangle it like a 2 year old in the grocery store. Going to get back on the proverbial horse this weekend and hopefully finish it. Also plan to mulch as much as possible. Saw this cute fire pit at the hardware store. Can't wait to be sitting out back listening to the crackle of the fire. :)

Decided to redo some of the tile in my bathroom. Bought the tile and even removed the old ones. That's about where the project has ended. Got too excited (yeah right) about tilling that I figured I'd pick up on the bathroom after I could raise my arms back up.

Found some interesting information regarding my family tree, looks like maybe my last name has been spelled wrong all these years. My best friend calls me a blood hound because I have to get to the bottom of something. I find genealogy fun and interesting. Hopefully I not only find out about my last name but also find some family along the way!

Struggling with my 13 year old daughter. She is a beautiful, funny and smart almost mirror image of me. She has my good habits as well as my bad ones. It's the bad ones that I can't seem to get a grip on. We are taking it one day at a time and I'm going to love her like there's no tomorrow. (Pray for me!)

So what have all of you beauties been up to?

funky friday

Wearing some new jeans today. Shocked myself with a size 18. :) Feeling full of myself. Soooo glad it's Friday. New clothes, new nails and new curtains up at the house. Going shopping tomorrow for my trip next month. I get to go to Virginia beach for a week long class. I'm excited to be going away for a bit. No responsibilities, no dishes, no laundry, no cooking. Just class, shopping, going out to dinner and RELAXING!!

happy valentines day!

I'm linking up with Crystal for our v-day nails. Since I'm not so good with the free hand stuff like she is, I used my stamping kit. China Glaze White on White for the base and a pink striper for the kisses.

Bought myself some awesome things this weekend. I love the TV show Big Bang Theory and of course anything Twilight related.

a few of my favorite things!

And because Crystal knows me so well she bought me a special card for valentine's day. I LOVE YA GIRL!

Hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day!

just another manic monday and a link up!

Coal

My Monday started out in classic fashion. With a bang and a bruised shin. With my big beautiful boy, Coal wanting breakfast as early as possible, I stumbled out of bed and down the hallway. We have a wooden gate up to keep the dog out of the cat's food bowl, and the cat with his graceful self decided to jump over it. His back legs kicked it back, it hit me in the shin then slammed to the floor. I stood there (awake now!) and said good morning Monday!

And the link up!

I recently got into blogging. My best friend started one and got me into it. Now I look at every opportunity as "Can I blog about this?!". I find it to be fun and I love reading other peoples' blogs.
